Have you ever want to try rafting down the
river? Do you ever want to get the feeling
of adrenalin coursing your veins? There
is a little place just about 20 minutes from Cairns in Northern Queensland.
This river goes through the Barron Gorge National Park and the World Heritage
Listed Wet Tropics of the Atherton Tablelands. It is the Barron River. The
rafting takes place downstream of the famous Barron Falls waterfall 230 meters high
and is considered sacred site by the indigenous Djabugay people. This is not
for the faint of heart and requires the courage and fortitude to do it.
The best time to go is around December to February
in Australia. Although, there trips are available during the year if you chose
not to go during the summer. There different
levels of raffling from the experience to novice. Rafting.com can provide
instruction during the voyage. The Barron Class for beginners is the best way
to view the sights along the trek down the river. Lastly, it provides a rich
environment for sightings of wildlife such as kangaroos.
There was plenty of excitement when I and a
couple of my friends decided to check it out about four weeks ago. The Barron
does provide plenty of excitement and you get to see tree-kangaroos and spotted
tail quolls. There is the brilliant blue Ulysses butterfly that fits right into
the environment nicely. Occasionally, endangered Cassowary bird we did see
during our journey. Most of all, there was plenty of wildlife for us to view.
At the heart of the journey was rafting that
is what we set out to do. We heard names for the rapids that we dared to cross
over. The names we heard were like “Rooster Rail”, “Cheese Churn”, and “Hells
Gate”. It was the thrilling of paddling down the river and along the rapids
that gave me and my friends the most adrenalin rush of all. This is what we thirsted
for. I mean we shot down the river and enjoy every minutes of our experience. Most
of all, we saw beautiful gorges during the paddling down the river.
The journey was
filled with excitement and was not boring. We saw water reflecting the greenery
on the water. It was like mirror reflecting everything back at us. It was
peaceful and didn’t feel any stress. We were all feeling pure sense of
adrenalin. You could feel it. It was what we were after during the journey. The
need to feel one with the river is there and paddling on the rapids was
challenging and fun at the same time. Most of all, it is what sent me there
along with friends who have talked me into it.
There was not a time
to feel scared because you had to dependent on your friends to help guide you along. Now, I am certain I
would do it again if someone ask me to. I would do it heartbeat. The view of
the wildlife was one of the reasons that I went and to have an adventure to
share. This adventure was a thrill a minute and didn’t leave me and anyone else
feeling like they are lost along the way down the river. Lastly, our crew was
bold enough to try it and course through the river without any difficulties.
This part of the
journey ended on a pleasant note. You have to have quick thinking when
raffling. Because seconds count. We found the raffling to be fun and worth the
effort. The journey down the river will enchant and inspire at the same time. Lastly,it
is worth seeing all of the wildlife and rafting down the river.
