Secrets In The Stone

A red ochre painting, which depicts two emu-like birds with their necks outstretched

The aborigines in Australia have been in here for 40,000 years. Some of the art of the walls of the caves are the most interesting of them all.   In this painting is a depiction of two emu-like birds with their necks outstretched. Finds like these are very rare. I like seeing things like this because it interested me. Because you are looking back into history that stretches thousands of years. Most of all, you are staring the face of history.

Finding art on the walls of caves dating back thousands of years is rare like gold. They tell the story of history that predates great empires. They are the story of human beings and how they interacted with the land.  Whenever I see one of these paintings, I am always in awe and wonder about the paintings on the walls of caves.

One of the amazing tours that anyone can go on is a tour featuring some of this amazing art. I know of such a tou. I have been one 3 weeks ago. It is Guurrbi Tours. The gentleman who runs it can tell the stories of stones and paintings of what they represent. His name is Willie Gordon, Nugal-warra Elder and Guugu Yimithirr speaker, is passionate about his Aboriginal culture and spirituality.

The story of the rock is a story about Aboriginal culture and spirituality more than anything. It is the story  of Australia and the hidden treasures. It is the story of the dream time that I heard about so long ago. It is fun to learn about such things. I went to see all of it and was amazed at the art work. that is produced. The mystery lies within the rocks and the story that they tell. I saw so much amazing cave art work. It was like touching history and getting up close to it.

It is an adventure to see it up close and person. You can learn a lot about the land and its inhabitants. I saw the paintings on the walls, you can sit the history and stories behind it all.

The best way to get there is to fly if you don't want to drive 1982 miles to get there from Brisbane. Flying is better because you can rest up and be well rested for the tour. I do recommend flying rather driving. The tours was great I got to learn a lot and have a great deal of respect of the Aboriginal culture and enjoyed hearing the story behind the rocks. The great thing is that is continued being practiced today by people who belong their respective tribes. It is fascinating stuff to learn that I can easily recommend bring the family along if bring a educational aspect of it. You will get plenty of exercise during the tour. It is a tour that I have not forgotten.
