Steak Pot Pie to Warm the Soul

When the weather is playing nice at all, I like to break in new recipes that are healthy. But, it is more comfort food than anything else. I know of recipe that does this. As investors, traders and anyone for that matter, we need food to keep those brain cells going at warp speed. As I have said many times, food is source of what gets going. In my search for healthy recipes and recipes that bring comfort. I ran across that I got the internet and kept for a while. It is a favorite of mine and is a huge hit with my friends and family on days when the weather is not kind at all.

The party will be warmed up and your friends and family will get the warm feeling of wholeness after eating. They will walk away full. No one can say that are not full afterwards. This dish warms the heart and soul. It fills the stomach with a satisfied feeling of goodness. What is it you ask? It is a steak pot pie that can make any grandmother proud. It will put a big smile like a Jell-O pudding smile afterwards from eating. It can feed an army. Let's get starting taking on the steak pot pie and turn it up a notch. Here are the ingredients and directions.

Ingredients
  1 tablespoon olive oil
22 oz lean chuck or blade steak, trimmed, cut into 3cm pieces
  1 brown onion, chopped
  1 stalk celery, trimmed, chopped
  2 medium carrots, chopped
9 oz Swiss brown or button mushrooms, halved
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh thyme
  2 tablespoons plain flour
  2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  1 1/2 cups reduced-salt beef stock
  17 oz potatoes, thinly sliced
 cooking oil spray

Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F.

Heat half the oil in a large, shallow, heat resistant casserole dish over medium-high heat.

Cook the beef in batches until it is browned all over.

Remove from the pan and put it aside.

Combine remaining oil to pan.

Add and cook onion, celery, carrot, mushroom and thyme for 5–7 minutes until softened.

Add flour and mix to coat.

Add some Worcestershire sauce gradually and stock.

Bring to a boil.

Return beef to pan and remove pan from the heat.

Put the potato slices in an arrangement over beef mixture in a circular pattern.

Cover it and transfer to the oven.

Bake for 1–1 1/2 hours until potatoes are tender and sauce has reduced a little bit.

Increase the oven temperature to 410°F.

Remove lid from dish.

Spray potatoes with oil.

Bake uncovered for 12–15 minutes until potatoes are browned.

It smells wonderful coming out the oven. I had one yesterday for lunch and had a couple friends over. I was able to win them over with it. I had this many times before. Whenever friends would come over and ask about this pie. I knew it was always win through and through. It is a little bit of Texas thrown into the pie. It has a magic all its own and can win people over to ask about it. I knew this pie is just that. Most of all, it is very filling. Here is the link to the recipe
